A Season of Belonging: Stories that Remind Us Why Connection Matters
November is National Adoption Month—a time to honor the love, resilience, and creativity of adoptive, foster, and kinship families. At iCARE, we celebrate connection every day, knowing that family is built not by biology, but through trust, care, and shared joy.

This month, we’re honored to share stories that remind us what connection looks like in real life:
🌱 Susan Silverman who reflects on the power of cultural and spiritual rituals to offer adopted children not just stability, but a sense of lineage, belonging, and place in a larger story.
🌱 Rob Scheer who reminds us that schools are part of our community and can play a vital role in helping adopted and foster-connected students feel safe, understood, and supported long after the paperwork is signed.
🌱 Kate Shanahan who shares how parenting through adoption begins with humility, curiosity, and the commitment to build a world where her child’s story, culture, and identity can thrive.
🌱 Nora and Leon Boe recently welcomed a new baby through adoption, beginning a beautiful new chapter filled with love and possibility.
That same spirit inspired our new Connection Corner Read-Aloud Series, where families share stories celebrating what it means to belong. We’re thrilled to debut our first YouTube segment featuring adoptive dad Ron Martin reading We Belong Together by Todd Parr—a story that beautifully captures our hope for every child: to feel safe, seen, and supported.
This fall, I’ve been grateful to connect with educators, parents, and ministry leaders across the country who are leaning in to learn how to better support children’s unique experiences. Together, we’re building a village where connection and healing grow.
💚 Thank you for being part of this journey—because we truly are all in this together.
Support Families. Heal Children. Strengthen Schools.
When We CONNECT, Children THRIVE.
